Bumpwise Bumpwise

Know your next version before your users find out

Bumpwise is an IntelliJ IDEA plugin that compares your code with the last published release of your library. It flags every change that would break your users, while you type, and shows you how to keep it compatible.

Two ways out of every breaking change

When a public method changes, Bumpwise highlights it and offers the fix that keeps old callers working, such as keeping the previous signature as @Deprecated and delegating to the new one.

Breaking on purpose? Bump the version updates your pom.xml, Gradle build, package.json or Cargo.toml in one step, keeping your format: 1.4.0-SNAPSHOT becomes 2.0.0-SNAPSHOT.

Know exactly who breaks, and why

Each warning says what changed, which release it breaks and which version it requires. No build is needed: Bumpwise reads your source code directly.

Next version and changelog, done

Tools | Check API Compatibility lists every change with its impact, calculates MAJOR, MINOR or PATCH and drafts the changelog. Copy a summary for your pull request or save a SARIF report for code scanning.

Before you commit

Nothing slips through

When a commit breaks the published API without a version bump, Bumpwise asks before it goes in, or blocks it if your team prefers. Intended changes can be accepted with a reason in a shared .bumpwise.yml.

Beyond the JVM

Same rules for TypeScript, Go, PHP and Rust

New required parameters, removed exports, interface methods and stricter types are found the same way, with each ecosystem's own conventions, such as /v2 module paths in Go.
